🔍 Zooming In/Out Timeline & Navigating

Efficient navigation within the timeline helps you edit more precisely and saves time during your video projects. Filmora provides several tools to zoom in/out and move around the timeline smoothly.

🎞️ 1. Zooming In and Out on the Timeline

Zooming in helps you see clips more closely for accurate cutting or trimming, while zooming out gives a broader view of your entire project.

Methods to Zoom:

🖱️ Using Zoom Slider:

  • At the bottom right of the timeline, you’ll find the Zoom Slider.

  • Drag the slider right to zoom in and left to zoom out.

⌨️ Using Keyboard Shortcuts:

  • Zoom In: Ctrl + = (Windows) / Command + = (Mac)

  • Zoom Out: Ctrl + - (Windows) / Command + - (Mac)

🧭 Fit Timeline to Screen:

  • Click the “Fit Timeline to View” icon (magnifying glass symbol).

  • It automatically adjusts the zoom level so all clips fit into the visible area of the timeline.

🧭 2. Navigating the Timeline

When working with long projects, you’ll need to scroll or move around the timeline efficiently.

Navigation Methods:

➡️ Scroll Bar:

  • Use the horizontal scroll bar below the timeline to move left or right.

🖱️ Mouse Wheel:

  • Scroll the mouse wheel to move the timeline horizontally (in some versions, hold Shift and scroll).

🧩 Timeline Playhead:

  • The Playhead (red vertical line) shows your current position.

  • Click and drag it to move to different parts of your video.

🎥 Preview Navigation:

  • You can also click on the preview window’s play bar to jump to a specific part of the clip.

💡 Tips:

  • Use Zoom In for detailed edits like cutting or syncing with audio beats.

  • Use Zoom Out when rearranging multiple clips or transitions.

  • Keep your playhead centered while zooming for better control.

Practice Task:

  1. Zoom in closely and make a precise cut on your video.

  2. Zoom out and check your overall clip arrangement.

  3. Try “Fit Timeline to View” after adding 5–6 clips.
